Mission

The vision of SCSI is caring for people affected by sickle cell for better outcomes, through a just and inclusive society in which human values, dignity, respect, equal opportunity and mutual coexistence are guaranteed and respected.

The mission of SCSI is to: promote seamless integration between the health and the education system and the community; promote patients and public engagement via collaboration for responsive care; and promote justice, the social protection and integration of people living with SCD and their immediate families.

Grounding Principles

The work of SCSI with people living with sickle cell and their families, various stakeholders, partners, staff and wider public is governed by the following core values:

Service to humanity: We act as professional agents by assisting individuals, groups, families and communities affected by SCD to prevent, alleviate or better cope with the crisis, change and stress stemming from the condition to enable them to function more effectively in all areas of life and living.

Social protection: We believe in preventing, managing, and overcoming situations that adversely affect people’s well-being and contribute towards policies and programmes designed to reduce poverty, vulnerability and exposure to risks.

Respect for human worth & dignity: We reject value systems that negate the humanity of people, but respect values that are fundamental to people’s sense of self-worth, as useful, independent and free beings.

Equality & Inclusion: We believe in and strive to function in a society and world day where people will not be judged by their background and appearance, but by the content of their character, while having equal access to societal opportunities
